How an Anti-Capitalist Business Coach Helps You Make Money and Drive Social Justice

Let’s get this out of the way: yes, I’m a business coach, and yes, I’m anti-capitalist. At first glance, that might seem like a contradiction, but it’s not.

Capitalism is a system that relies on some form of exploitation either of natural resources or of people and their labour. It’s been this way for 100’s of years, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

This is a system that has never worked for the majority (trickle-down economics doesn’t work people. We’ve been waiting like 300 years!), has only ever benefited the minority, and has extracted from people and planet to feed its insatiable appetite as well as going hand in hand with colonialism.

And yet, this is the world and the system we are currently living in.  

So, if we want to create a fairer, more just world, we need people like you—values-driven business owners—to succeed within this system while actively working to change it.

In a capitalist system, success is purely defined by how much profit you make—regardless of the cost to people or the planet. For solopreneurs who care about doing good, this creates constant tension: how do you make enough money to thrive without contributing to the very systems you’re trying to dismantle? We need to make money to live, be resourced and contribute either that money, or our time to causes we care about.

But when money itself feels tainted, and when we fear making money because we worry about being seen as ‘greedy’, ‘grasping’ or ‘ruthless capitalists’ (all actual things I have heard my clients say), it becomes impossible to grow our businesses and thrive.

So, what do we do?

The answer lies in redefining success and building businesses that prioritize justice and sustainability alongside profitability.

Navigating Capitalism While Challenging It

As an anti-capitalist business coach, my work isn’t about extremism or rejecting capitalism entirely, after all, it is the system that we are all operating in—but it’s about leveraging it to create something better.

This means ethical pricing that sustains you, a socially responsible business models that focus on justice, and redefining success in ways that reject the scarcity mindset capitalism imposes. You’re resourced, which means you can do your best work, show up fully for your clients, and contribute to the causes you care about. It may look like offering extended payment plans (like I do) or working with more profitable clients, so you can support people that don’t have less access to finances.

Regardless of what you do, your business becomes a tool for justice—proof that making money and doing good aren’t mutually exclusive, but integrally linked.

Capitalism and traditional business ‘wisdom’ will tell you explicitly or implicitly, that making money is a zero-sum game; that if you make money, someone else has to go without.

Not only is this BS (I know a ton of financially successful values-driven solopreneurs), but it’s what the system does to shame you into gaslighting yourself, so you only feel like you have one choice – make money OR do good.

But you don’t have to feel like you are selling out to be successful.
